Terms of Service

1. Eligibility

You must be a current Vanderbilt University student with a valid @vanderbilt.edu email address to use ReUseVU. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that:

• You are currently enrolled at Vanderbilt University
• You have a valid Vanderbilt email address
• All information you provide is truthful and accurate
• You have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement

2. Account Registration and Use

2.1 Single Account Policy

You may maintain only one account at any time. Creating multiple accounts is prohibited.

2.2 Verification

All users must verify their Vanderbilt email address through our PIN-based verification system. Access to the marketplace is restricted until verification is complete.

2.3 Account Responsibility

You are solely responsible for all activity conducted through your account, including listings you create and interactions with other users.

2.4 Inactive Accounts

Accounts that remain inactive for 90 consecutive days may be suspended.

3. Listings and User Content

3.1 Content You Provide

You may create listings with photos, descriptions, and pricing information ("User Content"). You represent and warrant that:

• You own or have the legal right to sell all items listed
• Your content does not violate any laws or third-party rights
• All item descriptions are accurate and truthful
• Photos uploaded are of the actual items being sold

3.2 License to ReUseVU

You grant ReUseVU a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable license to host, store, display, and transmit your User Content solely for the purpose of operating and displaying the Service to other users. ReUseVU does not sell user content or use it for advertising outside the platform.

3.3 Image Storage

Listing images are stored on third-party servers (AWS S3) as part of normal operations.

4. Prohibited Items and Conduct

You agree not to list or attempt to sell:

• Weapons, firearms, or ammunition
• Drugs, controlled substances, or drug paraphernalia
• Alcohol or tobacco products
• Counterfeit or stolen goods
• Hazardous materials or chemicals
• Animals or animal products (where prohibited)
• Services or intangible items
• Items that violate Vanderbilt University policies
• Items that violate local, state, or federal laws

You agree not to:

• Impersonate any person or entity (zero-tolerance policy)
• Post misleading or fraudulent listings
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
• Engage in price gouging or scalping
• Use the Service for illegal purposes
• Scrape, reverse-engineer, or exploit the Service

Violation results in immediate suspension or ban.

5. Transactions and Payments

5.1 Independent Transactions

ReUseVU does not process payments or facilitate transactions. All payment arrangements are made independently between buyers and sellers. We recommend cash transactions or trusted peer-to-peer payment services (Venmo, Cash App, etc.) conducted in person.

5.2 No Purchase Protection

ReUseVU provides no buyer protection, seller protection, or refunds. All transactions are at your own risk.

5.3 Pricing

Sellers are responsible for setting accurate prices. Items may be listed as "Free" or with a specific price. Once an item is sold, the seller is responsible for removing or updating the listing.

6. Safety and Meetups

When meeting to exchange items:

• Meet in public, well-lit areas on Vanderbilt campus
• Consider meeting during daylight hours
• Bring a friend if possible
• Inform someone of your meeting location and time
• Inspect items before completing the transaction

ReUseVU is not responsible for the safety of in-person meetings or the condition of items sold through the platform.

7. Content Moderation

Moderation is conducted through:

• Automated systems for detecting prohibited content
• User reporting mechanisms
• Manual review of flagged content

ReUseVU makes no guarantee that all inappropriate content will be detected. Users are encouraged to report violations.

8. Suspension and Termination

8.1 User-Initiated Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by contacting support.

8.2 ReUseVU-Initiated Suspension

ReUseVU may suspend or restrict your account at its discretion if you violate these Terms or pose a risk to the Service or other users. ReUseVU does not engage in discriminatory enforcement.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ReUseVU Inc., its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from:

• Your use of the Service
• Your interactions with other users
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your User Content or listings
• Transactions you conduct through the Service

12. Dispute Resolution

12.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by Tennessee law, unless your local law requires otherwise.

12.2 Small Claims

Either party may bring claims in small claims court where permitted.

12.3 No Class Actions

You waive any right to participate in class actions or representative proceedings. Disputes shall be resolved on an individual basis only.

13. Changes to Terms

ReUseVU may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
